The MCIA was founded in 2004 by a group of Memphis
improvisors and comedic performers. Our goal is to help provide
access to the Memphis area comedy scene to audiences and to performers.
Through networking, cross promotion, workshops,
and playing with other performers, we hope to enhance the area improv
and comedy scene.
We also want to help make it easy for people
looking for comedic talent to find it. Whether its an improv show,
a night of standup, or a private or business function, we want the MCIA
to be a one-stop shop for anyone looking for comedy in the Memphis area.
Another purpose of the MCIA is to provide a way
for improvisors and comics from outside the Memphis area to meet up with
and play with area groups. We have found that we can learn a lot
from folks outside the area, and think visitors take away some good
ideas as well. Plus, it's always fun to share the stage with
skilled performers from different cities.
The MCIA hopes to enrich the Memphis comedy scene,
and help performers find a place to play.
We believe that comedy is a lot more important
than people realize, and we believe that by strengthening the comedy
community, we are helping make the community at large just a little bit
better.
